Heartbreaks can be homecomings.

The times we stood up, spoke up, loved ourselves enough to change. The trials… but, the triumph.

Every day we read riveting personal accounts and find ourselves in someone else's story, realizing we're not alone in some of our most trying experiences. We pick up memoirs, or click-through on a particularly poignant headline, because it speaks to us, saying, “hey, I know you.” Language has a way of steadying us — of helping scattered memories find shape and meaning — the relationships that shaped us, the moments that broke us open, the quiet victories that no one else saw.

Your story matters. Let's honor it—together.

Let Your Story Unfold

reSTORYtive™ is a guided writing process of reflecting on lived experience, shaping it into story, and discovering the meaning that was waiting there all along.

During our 6-week online memoir course, new writers will develop a consistent writing practice, strengthen their storytelling craft, and connect with a community that gets it.

Each session includes guided sharing and thoughtful group feedback, and throughout the course I’ll offer additional in-depth editorial insight to help you strengthen your work between classes.

Bring the unedited version of you — this is a grounded, supportive space to explore your personal nonfiction.

Hi, I’m Shay, and I’ve spent nearly 20 years helping people find their voices.

Since 2006, my career has spanned journalism, marketing, and online media — eventually leading to my own content and communications consultancy. Alongside that professional work, I was helping others shape their stories in nonfiction writing communities and deepening my understanding of meaningful narrative via memoir workshops.

What I’ve always loved most is what I call “writer activation” — giving people the structure, tools, and permission to begin. Teaching busy professionals that they are already writers; they just need a clear path forward.

For years, I’ve been the one organizing the writing group, listening closely, and offering the kind of feedback that strengthens both the work and the writer. I know how to spot the heartbeat of a piece — and how to help it come forward with clarity.

My role isn’t to rewrite your voice. It’s to guide you through the terrain of your own material — helping you identify the throughline, the turning points, and the places where your writing wants to deepen.

Let’s bring your story to life.

"I haven't written professionally or creatively in years. I've always loved writing and felt like I had something to say, but didn't know how to get back on the path of writing creatively like I did when I was younger. Shay has helped me take that leap and just start writing. With her support and encouragement, it helped me not only get over my hesitation but also figure out what I wanted to write about. I'd recommend her to anyone who has always dreamed of writing, but didn't know how to start."

"Sharing my writing with Shay was one of the best things I ever did. She not only made a safe space for writing, she also validated my writing abilities to the point that I felt comfortable writing a whole book for publication. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to start writing or boost their writing goals."

How To Know You’re Being Called to Share Your Story

"Experience is the name everyone gives their mistakes." – Oscar Wilde

You've been thinking about this for a while, haven't you?

Maybe it's been months. Maybe years. There's something you need to process, something you need to say, and you keep telling yourself you'll get to it. When things settle down. When you have more time. When you feel ready.

Or maybe you've started writing, but the voice in your head won't quiet: You don’t know what you’re doing! What makes your experiences worth shaping into something meaningful?!

Here's the truth: if you're asking that question, you're exactly who this course is for.

Your story doesn't have to be extraordinary to matter. It just has to be true. And if there's something inside you that keeps demanding to be written—a memory that won't let go, a pattern you're finally seeing clearly, a truth you're ready to honor—that's your sign.

Honestly, I could give you pages of reasons to sign up, but you've already made it this far down THIS page. Here. Now. So what are you waiting for?
